Important Alert: Google and Yahoo will require DMARC starting from April 2024.

Why Does the U.S. Need DMARC Protection?

Email phishing is responsible for more than 9 out of every 10 data loss incidents in the world. That’s more than any other single factor making organizations like yours lose sensitive data. Worse yet, they could be using your brand name to target the general public—your customers—and causing them to lose trust in your brand.

Email Spoofing in the U.S. is Major Threat

As of May 2020, the U.S. has over 700,000 domains implementing DMARC, placing it at the top of the list of countries with DMARC-protected domains. While this is a good sign, it still only represents a small percentage of the millions of business domains registered in the U.S. What’s more, not all DMARC users will have it enforced — you’re only DMARC-enforced when you set your policy to quarantine or reject.

DMARC Compliance in USA

  • On October 16, 2017, a large set of US federal government agencies were given a directive mandating compliance with DMARC. The Binding Operational Directive (BOD) 18-01, issued by the Department of Homeland Security, gave the agencies in question a year to incrementally implement the email security protocol in their systems. As of October 2018, over two-thirds (66%) of all U.S. government domains had fully implemented DMARC.

  • Government involvement in cybersecurity measures marks a strong inflection point for many security standards. With DMARC, this is more true than ever in the U.S.
