What is MTA-STS?
An internet standard that functions by improving the security of connections between SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) servers is the SMTP Mail Transfer Agent-Strict Transport Security (MTA-STS). MTA-STS works by enforcing TLS encryption of emails delivered to your domain so as to transport messages over a secured connection so that messages are not delivered in cleartext, effectively mitigating existing security problems in SMTP servers that enables opportunistic encryption.

How Does MTA-STS Work?
MTA-STS secures email delivery by:
- Enforcing TLS encryption
- Serving the MX records from an HTTPS-secure server
The MTA-STS protocol specifies to an SMTP sending server that emails addressed to your domain must be sent over a TLS-encrypted connection. In case an encrypted channel cannot be negotiated, the email is not delivered at all, instead of being delivered as cleartext.
