Email Authentication The Blind Spot

Why should organizations focus on Email Authentication?

Email authentication helps to ensure the legitimacy of an email’s origin and prevents spoofing, phishing, and other malicious activities. By verifying the sender’s identity, email authentication helps recipients to determine if an email is genuine or if it is an attempt to deceive or scam them. This helps to protect the recipient’s security and privacy, and it also helps to maintain the reputation of the sending domain.

Through this event, PowerDMARC and NGN will talk about the growing need for email authentication and DMARC & MTA-STS adoption in Bahrain and how to achieve compliance in real-time.

Why DMARC?

DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance) is an email authentication protocol that provides a way for email domain owners to protect their domain from unauthorized use, also known as email spoofing. DMARC allows the owner of a domain to publish a policy that specifies which mechanisms (e.g. SPF, DKIM) should be used to authenticate email messages sent from that domain and what to do if a message fails authentication (e.g. quarantine or reject).

DMARC also provides a way for email receivers to report back to the domain owner about messages that pass or fail DMARC evaluation, helping the owner to monitor the use of their domain in email communications.

The Benefits of Email Authentication for End Users

Email authentication helps to ensure that the emails a user receives are legitimate and from trusted sources. Some of the benefits of email authentication for end users include:

  • Reduced spam and phishing attempts:

Email authentication makes it harder for spammers and phishers to disguise their messages as legitimate ones

  • Improved email deliverability:

Authenticated emails are more likely to reach their intended recipients, as ISPs are less likely to flag them as spam.

  • Increased security:

Email authentication helps to prevent unauthorized access to a user’s email account and protects their personal information.

  • Better sender reputation:

Legitimate senders that use email authentication are more likely to have a good sender reputation, which can improve the deliverability of their messages.

  • Enhanced trust:

By verifying the identity of the sender, email authentication helps to build trust between the sender and recipient, improving the overall user experience.
