Key Takeaways
- Configuring DKIM and DMARC for Wix authenticates your domain, strengthens email security, and ensures your marketing campaigns don’t end up in the spam folder.
- Wix provides specific CNAME records for authentication; adding these to your DNS is required to authorize Wix to send mail on your behalf.
- Use PowerDMARC to generate your DMARC record to gain full visibility into your email traffic, moving beyond the basic monitoring Wix provides.
- Once published, verify your status in the Wix Email Marketing dashboard to maintain a professional sender reputation and comply with Google and Yahoo’s latest sender requirements.
Configuring DKIM and DMARC records for Wix ensures that your business emails are recognized as legitimate by global mail servers. By combining Wix’s sender tools with PowerDMARC’s advanced monitoring, you protect your brand from spoofing while maximizing your email reach.
How to Configure SPF, DKIM, and DMARC for Wix
Step 1: Access Your Sender Domain in Wix
1. Log into your Wix account and navigate to Marketing & SEO > Email Marketing.
2. Scroll down to the Sender Details section and click Add Sender (or manage an existing one).
3. Enter your Sender Name and Email Address, then click Save.
4. The next step is to verify that you own this domain. Copy the email confirmation code that Wix sent to your email address.
5. Paste it into the Confirm email address field (as shown below) and click Confirm.
6. Click Authenticate in the pop-up window.
7. Wix will now display 5 CNAME records required for verification.
8. Keep this tab open; you will need to copy these values into your DNS provider.
Step 2: Log in to Your DNS Provider
Log in to where your domain is hosted to add the records provided by Wix.
1. Go to your DNS Management dashboard. As an example we are using Namecheap for this setup.
2. Select the domain you are authenticating and navigate to Advanced DNS.
Step 3: Configure Wix DKIM & Routing Records
Wix uses CNAME records to handle both DKIM signing and server routing (via SendGrid).
1. In your DNS provider, click Add Record.
2. Select:
- Type: CNAME.
- Host: Copy the “Host” value for the first record from Wix.
- Points to/Target: Paste the corresponding “Points to” value from Wix.
- Proxy Status: If using Cloudflare, ensure the Proxy (orange cloud) is turned off (DNS Only).
3. Repeat this process for the first 4 CNAME records provided by Wix.
Step 4: Create a DMARC Record
Important to know: Adding the CNAME 5 (DMARC record) provided by Wix provides you with neither enforcement nor visibility. Therefore, we recommend following the steps below instead:
To get comprehensive DMARC reports and automate your path towards safe DMARC enforcement, use PowerDMARC.
- Sign up on PowerDMARC.
- In the PowerDMARC dashboard on the left, navigate to Analysis Tools > PowerToolbox > Generator Tools > DMARC Record Generator.
- Choose your policy. The recommended approach is to start with p=none.
- Important note: The p=none policy acts as a “monitoring mode” and is the ideal starting point for your DMARC implementation. It allows your emails to reach the inbox as usual while you collect data on how your domain is being used. However, to actively block spoofing and unauthorized senders, you must eventually transition to an enforced policy like “quarantine” or “reject” once your legitimate mail streams are fully authenticated.
- Add an aggregate report email: This designated address is where receiving mail servers will send your DMARC data. For PowerDMARC users, we automatically configure the RUA and RUF tags to point to our platform. This ensures all raw data is processed into easy-to-read, human-readable reports accessible directly from your dashboard.
- Click “Generate”: Once you have customized your settings, click the Generate button and copy both the Host and the Value for use in your DNS settings.
- Now, head back to your DNS Management Console and add a new TXT record OR use our auto DNS publishing feature to automatically publish your record without manual intervention.
- Host: _dmarc
- Value: Paste the full DMARC string generated.
- Save the record.
Step 5: Validate Your Records in Wix
After adding all 5 records (4 CNAMEs from Wix and 1 DMARC TXT record from PowerDMARC) to your DNS:
1. Go back to the Wix Email Marketing tab.
2. Click Verify or Check Connection.
3. If configured correctly, the status will change to “Authenticated.”
4. Note: DNS propagation can take up to 24 hours. If it fails, wait a few hours and try again.
Step 6: Monitor with PowerDMARC
Now that Wix is authorized, you should monitor the traffic to ensure no legitimate mail is being dropped.
1. On the PowerDMARC sidebar (you can access the dashboard after you have signed up), go to Dashboard > Domain Health.
2. Select your domain. You should see green indicators.
3. Check your Aggregate Reports after 24 hours. You will see “Wix” or “SendGrid” appearing as a “Compliant” sender.
When you configure DKIM and DMARC for Wix, you ensure:
- Your domain is protected against various forms of cyberattacks, such as phishing and spoofing.
- Your email deliverability is improved, helping your emails land in inboxes.
- You know exactly who is sending emails on your domain’s behalf.
